Objective Description

Citizen Engagement is the collective action taken to identify and address issues of public concern. Citizen engagement can promote peace by providing opportunities for the government to respond to and address the needs and concerns of citizens, creating opportunities for increased legitimacy, effectiveness, and stability of government. Citizen Engagement projects can be practiced both by government and civil society actor.

Citizen Engagement without a receptive government participant can be problematic for peace, since it provides opportunities for increased frustration in the people.
