Description of Tool Class

Journalist Security tools are resources for journalists to improve their safety. Some Journalist Security tools Salama and Umbrella are guides for journalists, others, like Reporta are applications to be incorporated into their daily operating procedures. Often these are designed to be mobile apps, so that journalists can consult the resource on their smartphones. Because they focus on protecting the user for physical and digital harm, Journalist Security are closely related with Physical Security (Tool Class) and Digital Security (Tool Class) tools. Journalist Security tools are defined by their being developed explicitly for journalists and the unique procedures they need to go through.

While designed for journalists, many examples in this category are applicable to the lives of activists and peacebuilders who live and operate in dangerous environments.
